Patti Carmen Pottery (under development!)
Patti Carmen Whitehead has been a Boone, N. C. resident for over 25 years and graduated from Appalachian State University with a bachelor’s degree in Housing and Interiors. She was drawn to pottery with a desire to produce her own kitchenware and started working in clay 15 years ago when she took a community pottery class at Doe Ridge Pottery. The forgiving nature of clay always amazes her and its ability to be transformed so greatly provides such huge opportunities for uniqueness and individuality. She finds enjoyment in a focus on aesthetically functional wares and is often inspired by nature, which is an amazing teacher of art. Producing pottery creates many design questions: purpose, function and beauty. The challenge of the problem may take time as she goes through the trials and errors to arrive at the most desirable pot. A production piece should be made, fired, observed and used before recognizing what it needs to be a functionally aesthetic piece. Above all, she feels the pots she makes are intended for artful living, holding and use.
