Joe Miller

Joe Miller
Joe Miller is a Boone, N. C. artist, art instructor and renowned art industry businessman. In the mid-1980's Joe was a pharmacist and drug store owner who decided to follow his long-standing fascination with watercolor and learn to paint. After lessons with artist and printmaker Noyes Capehart and enough passion for the medium to fire "Tweetsie" (our resident steam locomotive), Joe began his journey and the art world has never been the same! In 2006 Joe received the prestigious Dolphin Medal of the American Watercolor Society designated for persons making outstanding contributions to watercolor and art in general. Joe now joins the ranks of Dong Kingman, Millard Sheets, Andrew Wyeth and a handful of other acclaimed artists who have received this honor. In 2013 Joe became a Signature Member of the American Watercolor Society with the selection of his painting "Come Dance with Me". Joe's work in watercolor is a genuine and peaceful reflection of the forests, hills and farms of the mountains of North Carolina yet extends to include his world travels and beautiful watercolor journaling. Roots as an outdoorsman and an appreciation for the beauty of wild places often leads him toward the landscape, yet he is also prone to include touches of humanity that grounds us in these settings. Joe has taught watercolor to thousands of individuals via his workshops, travels and videos and has served as a mentor to many established artists. His passion for creativity has led not only to a global art supply business but great philanthropic efforts to provide art supplies to needy groups, especially children, all over the world via his "Brushes for Vincent" program. Most noteworthy, few individuals who have met and spent time with Joe Miller fail to call him a friend.
