When asked to serve as a juror for an exhibition, I like to provide the participants and organizers with this overview. Many painters are often curious as to how a juror reaches his or her decisions about award selections, particularly the balance of subjective versus objective influence and decision-making. First, there is no set formula and very little written information on the subject. This is my personal philosophy that I have developed over the years with guidance from my own teachers or colleagues who also serve as jurors.
